Dues Assessment for 2010

Brother Bruce P. MorinBrothers All,

I bring you warm Fraternal greetings from our Worshipful Master, Robert E. Bailey and the Officers of Sequin Level Lodge No. 140.

If you have not read the Annual Meeting Summary posted on the web site, I want to call your attention to a certain key element that you must be made aware of.

On December 3, 2009 the Worshipful Master gave notice that on January 21, 2010 there will be a vote held for the purpose of passing a $25.00 assessment per brother of our lodge. This assessment is to assist the lodge in funding its current projects without an increase in dues.

The question came up as to why we didn’t just raise the dues? We could have, and that was the original recommendation by our Financial Secretary based on solid economic indicators at the time of the development of the 2010 budget, but our goal is to keep dues down and services up. Let’s face it, no one likes their dues being increased especially during these trying times. However we needed to do something, so we felt the assessment was the better way to handle it. Doing so gives us several advantages:

  • It will allow us more time to evaluate our complete financial strategy for 2010 and beyond.
  • Should the economic situation stabilize and our portfolio be reflective of that, then it gives us the option not to raise dues in the immediate future.
  • It will allow us to start seeing the benefit of other programs such as the TD Bank Affinity Program that we launched this past October.
  • It also allows us to examine other programs from other suppliers that will bring in additional revenues.

Brothers, as the incoming Master, I strongly believe in and support what Worshipful Brother Bob seeks to do, as well as the sound advice from Worshipful Brother Jim. You have my pledge that we will do everything in our power to keep costs down while still maintaining the level of services you have come to enjoy at Sequin Level Lodge 140. Further, with the adoption of new Financial programs like the Affinity Partnership, it is my sincerest hope that increasing dues will not be something we have to do in the near future.

In closing brothers, you too can help. If you are not yet banking at TD Bank or have not yet joined the Sequin Level / TD Bank Affinity program, please consider doing so. This will go a long way in helping us move forward in the future.

Fraternally yours,

Bruce P. Morin

What's in this issue:
In this edition you will find some new things as well as some old. Our featured columinist, the Tao of Masonry has returned and we have a new Senior officer in town, so he will be sounding off as well.

We also have the passing of the Masonic Toarch from one Master to another. A fond farewell to our Worshipful Brother Robert E. Bailey who through his guidance and wisdom has led Sequin Level Lodge No. 140 to another very successful year! Thank you Bob!
